To take part in an FLL Tournament an FLL Robot Set will be needed to construct and programm an autonomous robot that can solve FLL missions. To create equal conditions for all FLL Teams they wokr with the same system: LEGO Mindstorms (LMS). This page contains information about using LMS within FLL.

LEGO Mindstorms Education Set NXT

Since the FLL Challenge 2007 both LEGO Mindstorms RCX System and LEGO Mindstorms NXT System may be used. The switch-over is voluntarily, teams can participate with RCX furthermore.

If you want to change the system, it is advisable to acquire LEGO Mindstorms Education NXT Basic Set, as this is specific to schools. These are the vantages:

:: RCX-Sensors and Engines as well as lamps can be used (adaptercables are only in Education-Set)
:: a rechargeable battery which can be used with an RCX-Transformer is included
:: 1 touch sensor additional
:: 3 lamps (not in the Consumer Set)
:: box with merge program
:: but: less construction elements (431 instead of 519) refillable by buying

Beside that the set can be used as a setup for LMS, because the NXT Education Set offers the possibiltiy to implement sensors and engines by RCX. With ROBOLAB 2.9-Software you can programm NXT on XP-computers.

FLL Robot Sets
To take part in FIRST LEGO League (FLL) there are customized FLL Robot Sets, containing all parts permitted for FLL Robots. The companies 'LPE Technische Medien' and 'VS Möbel' offer these packages for FLL teams at a preferential price.

Furthermore VS Möbel  offers for the preparation of FLL Teams a working top (B 246 x D 124 x H 12 cm) for 479,00 €. This coated plate (19 mm thick) contains a stable border made from aluminium and can be placed on two tables or saw horses if necessary. The worktop corresponds the measurements of the FLL Challenge Set.
